Family Connections

Creating replicas of similar items which were in my Grandmother's house has been interesting. Realizing they cannot be the same, they are made by me.  Yet they have the essence of being birthed from another item.  The idea of family being connected is huge in this project. Family is connected in ways beyond comprehension.  Particles of matter connect to us in ways we do not visually see.  Through replicating objects, I speak to how people reproduce little bits of themselves. Families spider web around the universe.

Driveway Mailbox

Driveway Mailbox is a work in progress.
Through the rectangular hole below, you peep in to see an image of the driveway illuminated.

Slowly, I've been forging steel "roots" which will stand the mailbox up.

...more pictures to come!

Working on a "Light Box Shelf"

Mingling together are images printed on plexiglass,
a couple of hand forged items, and collected pieces from Harold's house after the fire.

More images to come!

The Homestead, Revisited

Playing with the pictures sometimes leads me to new discoveries and relationships.
There are all kinds of emotional qualities to the project.
Stories told, things left unsaid...
And sometimes hanging out with people in the studio,
and someone saying "well isn't that funny"
while holding up a paint stick, leads me to this.

In Progress

Pieces of the Collection:

A glimpse of work in progress.

I can see making more flowers, but with moving parts! Powered by wind, of course.

Pieces of my sister's old wind chime, fused together with a piece from the fire.

"Jar of Pickles" found in Harold's House, wrapped in forged steel roots.

One of many spice jar's I've collected.
I'm unsure if I found them at Harold's or if the rack was my Mothers.  Inside and out of the jars I've placed little photos of the property (after demolition, during the fire) or family photos.
