Still Life With Bananas

One of Grandma's Favourite foods was Bananas.
Sometimes it seemed to be all she ate.

I decided to paint a blown up copy of one of the Still Life photos she once had in a brown oval frame.

The main focus of the image for me, was the Banana.
...and then there was the Oval Frame.
I wanted to re-create the frame as being lustrous along with a duality of rust forming.
I could have made the frame perfect;
but its not about perfection.
Family isn't perfect.
I'd been contemplating making a metal bowl for bananas.
Suggesting people "please eat one!" ..before they rot.
Then, I began to explore the idea of Metal Bananas.
The same metal as the frame.
My first idea of bananas hanging from the frame was silly. Nonsensical.
So I bunched them together.
They weren't to sit in a bowl and bruise.
They were meant to sit in a banana hanger.
So I began to forge an ornate one.
It was meant to be more than a banana holder; it was to honour the bananas.
After a long day of hammering and playing; experimenting..
I had been watching a weak spot and being careful about it.
When....I broke the hanger!
It split in half.
I wanted to give up, but decided instead of making an entire new one,
I should weld this one back together.
It sits rather nicely now.
I prefer it.

In the end:
It's Still Life With Bananas
